I tried the often-suggested scanner software called "MF So - figured there was a piece of software missing for the scanning function. Optimistically, I tried pushing the printer's scanner button to scan something and of course it would not initialize.

(I had it connected to one of the many USB ports I have. The port I chose was "USB001 Virtual Printer Port".
